Sora in Madeira Island

Tags:

Back in December 4th, we spotted one Sora (Porzana carolina). It was seen by Catarina Fagundes and me (Hugo Romano) at mid-day and was Madeira first record.Yesterday January 28th, we confirmed that the bird is still in Madeira Island, more precisely in Lugar de Baixo pond. The Sora looks healthy and well-fed, its stay is reaching the 2 months. This winter visitors that are still in Lugar de Baixo include: Sora, Teal, Spotted Sandpiper, Cattle Egrets, Little Egret, Mallard. Lugar de Baixo pond looks a bit dirty with surface litter, though this birds are recovering well after a long North Atlantic flight.
